Dubbo has long been known as the ‘hub of the west’ because of its geographical location as a service centre for the Orana region. The region offers diversity and opportunity, combining the attributes of a larger centre with the familiarity and generosity of spirit typical of rural communities in western NSW.
The region’s economic strength lies heavily in the diversity of industries, including a thriving retail sector and more than 4,500 registered businesses. It is also well-positioned as a transport, agriculture and mining services centre.
Exploration projects are flourishing across the surrounding region and major works for significant rail infrastructure and maintenance facilities are underway. The LGA is also home to several large-scale renewable energy projects and is seeing greater integration and development of smart technology and supporting infrastructure.
