The Exchange Orana’s latest exhibition has set a new benchmark after local Gamilarraay artist Hayden Wood sold out his entire collection on the opening night of his first solo exhibition.
More than 50 people gathered at The Exchange Orana on Friday September 5 for the special event to celebrate the opening. Despite selling all 22 pieces, the powerful exhibition of works, titled Memories of Home, will be on display for the month of September at The Exchange Orana.
Guests were captivated by Mr Wood’s evocative interpretations of memory, belonging and landscape, each piece resonating with deep personal and cultural significance. The collection, inspired by Mr Wood’s own experiences growing up on Country, explores themes of connection to land, ancestral stories and the enduring strength of community.
Mr Wood, of Bokhara Dreaming, said he was blown away and so thankful for all of the love and support.
"What drives me is my life experience—the highs and the lows. My art is an expression of my feelings, so to sell out my very first solo exhibition, Memories from Home, is something truly special. It’s a humbling experience knowing that people are taking away pieces that carry a part of me."
RDA Orana CEO Justine Campbell, who operates The Exchange Orana, said she was thrilled for Mr Wood and his incredible collection.
“A huge congratulations to Hayden on not only his first solo exhibition but a full sell out on opening night,” said Ms Campbell.
“Hayden’s collection is not only visually stunning but carries such depth of meaning and connection to Country. The atmosphere was abuzz on Friday evening as guests discussed their favourite works – it was truly wonderful.
“At The Exchange Orana, we’re committed to providing a platform for artists like Hayden to share their stories. Exhibitions like his are so important for showcasing and celebrating the amazing talent we have across the Orana region.
“The walls of The Exchange Orana will be adorned with the entire collection throughout September, offering the broader community an opportunity to experience the striking beauty and emotion of Memories of Home.”
