Minister for Skills, TAFE & Tertiary Education to Champion Regional Talent and Youth Pathways at 2026 Orana Youth Forum
July 20, 2026 - Regional Development Australia (RDA) Orana will welcome The Hon. Steven Whan, MP, Minister for Skills, TAFE & Tertiary Education, to the 2026 Orana Youth Forum next month. He joins an exceptional line‑up of speakers, including Dr Karl Kruszelnicki AM, sponsors and exhibitors connecting more than 500 students from across the Orana and Centra West with real pathways into local industries, training and tertiary education.
The Forum, now in its third year, will be held at Charles Sturt University Dubbo on Thursday August 20. It has become one of the region’s most impactful youth engagement initiatives, giving students direct access to employers, apprentices, industry leaders and inspirational speakers shaping the future of work in regional NSW.
RDA Orana CEO Justine Campbell said Minister Whan’s attendance reflects a strong commitment to strengthening opportunities for young people across the Orana.
“The Orana Youth Forum continues to grow because our region believes in its young people, and this year’s program reflects that commitment,” Ms Campbell said.
“We’re delighted to welcome Minister Whan to the Forum. His support for regional skills, training and education sends a powerful message to students about the opportunities available right here in the Orana.”
Minister Whan will address students during the program, speaking to the strength of regional industries, the importance of vocational and tertiary pathways, and the NSW Government’s ongoing work to support training, apprenticeships and education across the state.
“The Orana Youth Forum is about showing young people they don’t have to leave regional NSW to build a great career. The opportunities are here, in the industries and communities that power our region,” said Minister Whan.
“Whether it’s TAFE, an apprenticeship, traineeship or university, there are strong pathways into jobs that are in demand. I encourage every student to ask questions, make connections, and explore where those opportunities could take them.
“The Minns Labor Government is investing in skills that work by backing training, education and local jobs to help young people thrive and keep regional communities strong.”
Minister Whan’s visit comes as part of a dynamic program headlined by Australia’s favourite scientist, Dr Karl, who’s high‑energy keynote will encourage students to question, explore and imagine what’s possible.
More than 30 exhibitors have already confirmed their involvement, delivering hands‑on demonstrations, career conversations and insights into training, apprenticeships, university pathways and local employment opportunities. Additional exhibitor spaces remain available for organisations wanting to connect with future employees and contribute to regional workforce development.
Ms Campbell said the Forum continues to grow as one of the region’s most effective youth engagement events.
