Unlocking the Potential of the Golden Highway

Freight operators and tourists alike will benefit from business case study to improve the efficiency, capacity and safety of the Golden Highway, thanks to funding from the previous NSW Government.

Member for the Dubbo electorate today announced Regional Development Australia (RDA) Orana has received $663,352 from the Regional NSW – Business Case and Strategy Development Fund to produce the Orana Hunter Connections and Beyond – Golden Highway Transport Study.

“The Golden Highway is a critical corridor which links the economic and social infrastructure of the Orana and Hunter regions,” Mr Saunders said.

“However, with the increasing demand for freight transportation, and changing industry needs, the corridor is facing significant challenges, including congestion, safety concerns, and inadequate capacity.

“I am proud to support this important initiative that will help to enhance the existing freight corridor, ensure the efficient movement of goods, and drive economic growth in the region.”

RDA Orana CEO Megan Dixon said the project is a crucial step towards ensuring the Golden Highway remains a reliable and efficient transportation link.

“The study will provide valuable insights and recommendations that will inform the region’s transportation planning, and help to address the challenges facing the freight industry.

“It is anticipated that the project will provide broad benefits to the resources, energy, manufacturing, education and tourism industries, as well as the many companies in the Orana and Hunter regions that trade across NSW and globally.”

The Regional NSW – Business Case and Strategy Development Fund is part of the $3.3 billion Regional Growth Fund and will help create a pipeline of investment-ready projects for future funding opportunities.
